Life at WELL with Sarah Rose

As part of our WELL Stories project, we want to share the perspectives of the talented people who contribute so much to WELL Health.

In this Q&A, we chatted with Sarah Rose, one of WELL’s amazing Clinic Managers! Let’s see what Sarah had to say about her proudest achievement and surprising lessons learned at WELL, and find out what motivates her!

What are some of your hobbies outside of work? Are you supporting any charities etc?

Hobbies outside of work include: Trap shooting (Skeet shooting), Metal Detecting and Painting.

Charities that I support are the SPCA and the Covenant House.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Growing up, I have always wanted to be an elementary school teacher.

Share 3 ‘Fun Facts’ about you

  • I was in college for the Social Working program. While my career path has completely changed since then, my desire to help others has remained the same.
  • I’m a professional  P-R-O-C-R-A-S-T-I-N-A-T-O-R. I have a tendency of leaving projects until the very last minute. Yet, I always manage to complete them efficiently.
  • I have two manipulative cats named Sushi and Frankie.

Do you have any mentors in your professional life?

The mentor in my personal life mentor is my father. He taught me at a very young age that life is not easy. Take responsibility for all my actions, and take risks on all decisions (whether good or bad). In my professional life – Sabrina (my confidant) who co-manages with me –thank you for developing my “can-do” spirit. 😊

What steps do you personally take to improve your mental health and wellness?

Every year I suffer with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). The action I take to improve this is to keep up with my Vitamins, and 30 minutes of light therapy daily. When I have an opportunity, I will take advantage of taking a 30-60 minute walk and listen to my favourite tunes. It always helps me “de-stress.”

Questions about Your Career

What is your role at WELL?

I am the Clinic Manager at WELL Health Coquitlam.

What is the most rewarding or inspiring thing about what you do?

The most rewarding thing about working in healthcare is making a positive impact on someone. It’s building relationships, and the tasks we do to help those that are in need of assistance.

What’s one thing you’re learning now or learned recently?

I’ve learned to live outside of my comfort zone. The introvert in me is becoming more extrovert and I’m enjoying making connections with my colleagues and superiors.

What’s your go-to productivity hack?

I like to work in short bursts. Work 25-minute sessions with 5-minute breaks in between. Helps motivate me to complete tasks throughout the day.

Questions about WELL

What is your proudest accomplishment at WELL?

My proudest accomplishment is achieving an average of 80% total online bookings. We are seeing such a difference with our phone lines saving around 35 hours. Now our patients are able to get through without issues. I thank WELL for providing amazing incentives for staff members, and acknowledging how incredible they are.

What’s one thing that surprised you about working at WELL?

The name WELL stands for what they strive in, and that’s something most corporate companies lack. I recognize the amount of support on the WELLbeing of their employees and contractors. That positive leadership continues to amaze me
